After sending my first letter (which was the hardest thing to do. What do you say to the person who makes it possible for you to not worry and at the same time, not remind them that they're risking their life for you... phew) and then sending my first care package... I was getting a little sad because I hadn't heard anything. When you sign up... they tell you that you could send letters and never hear anything, but to keep sending stuff because they do like it. Finally, I got an email from him! I was so excited to hear from him. He was totally nice in the email, and was so thankful for the care packages and the letters. I sent him an email back letting him know that he has more letters and care packages to come... so now I've adopted 2 more soldiers.
During all of this, Lisa decided to adopt a soldier. She has 2, and is also approved to send bake goods. Between her and I, we have a total of 5 soldiers, and I know Kate is helping with the baking stuff (little miss baker over there) and I'm sure she'll add stuff to whatever Lisa sends along.
So like I said before, every month I'll be apart of a new charity. I have a few in mind for June, but I keep thinking about that Oprah show where she did the thing on puppy mills. Wow... yeah after crying for an hour, I swore that my dog would be adopted the right way. There's also this organization CARE which fights poverty and educates women across the world.
This Soldier's Angels organization is great, and it's something that I will continue to do. I went into it knowing it wouldn't just be for the month of May, but forever if I can.
Pieces,
Kath
